For many women, using public transport does not feel safe.

With 26% of women who stopped using it out of fear, technology emerges as a key tool to restore safety and confidence in daily mobility.

Moving freely through the city should be a right, but for thousands of women in Mexico City, public transport has become a space of fear. According to the study Young Women in Mexico City 2025 and ENVIPE 2024 (INEGI)26% of women stopped using public transport for fear of becoming victims of a crime.

This figure reflects not only a safety problem, but also a direct limit on women’s economic, social, and educational participation. When fear restricts mobility, it also restricts opportunities and freedom.

Technology: key to personal safety

Faced with this challenge, we need to explore solutions that help restore confidence in public spaces. Safety is not a privilege; it is a right. Today, technology has become an ally so women can feel accompanied and supported on every trip, through mobile apps, alert devices, and tools that encourage citizen solidarity.

  • Quick alert buttons: allow people to ask for help in seconds.
  • Trusted networks: keep family and friends connected so they can respond to any risk.
  • Crisis interaction: the community can react in real time as support and deterrence.

A path toward safer journeys

Public transport should be a safe space for everyone. While we move toward that goal, technology exists to accompany, give people a voice, and remind us that no woman should be alone.
